This Dish Was Ordered More Than 4 Million Times This Year, According to Grubhub

Be honest, you ordered it too.

There are just over two weeks between now and the end of the year, which means that there’s still plenty of time for every company that made it through 2022 to release some kind of end-of-year recap. We’ve already heard about TikTok’s Top 10 food trends and Uber Eats’ weirdest delivery requests, so now it’s Grubhub’s turn to tell us what we all had delivered to our homes, apartments, and offices during the past 12 months. And honestly, it doesn’t disappoint.

The delivery platform just dropped its “2022 Delivered” report, which it says shows that “comfort inspired what we ate” this year. Its evidence? The fact that burritos were the most-ordered food on Grubhub this year. All told, we placed more than 4 million (!!) orders for the tortilla-wrapped staple. (Burritos were the eighth most-ordered item in 2021, so yeah, that’s a big jump).

According to Grubhub, the top 10 most ordered foods this year were as follows:

  1. Burrito (both ‘regular’ burritos and burrito bowls)
  2. Cheeseburger
  3. Cheese Pizza
  4. Pad Thai
  5. Chicken Quesadilla
  6. California Roll
  7. Fried Chicken Sandwich
  8. Caesar Salad
  9. Chicken Tikka Masala
  10. Boneless Wings

Burritos were also the most frequently ordered lunch item, followed by cheeseburgers, fried chicken sandwiches, and cheese pizzas. When we got a late-night craving — which Grubhub defines as any order placed after 10 p.m. — we chose chicken quesadillas, fried chicken sandwiches, cheeseburgers, and mozzarella sticks (in that order).

As for the rest of the day, a sausage, egg, and cheese sandwich was the top breakfast order of the year, followed by doughnuts, sausage burritos, bagels with cream cheese, and muffins. We most frequently satiated our sweet tooth (or sweet teeth) with tiramisu, baklava, cookies, cheesecakes, and brownies. And when it came to booze, the top alcohol orders were beer, margarita, hot sake, pina coladas, and white wine, specifically Sauvignon Blanc.

Interestingly, Grubhub said that its Top Trending Cuisine of the year was Australian, with a 531% increase in year-over-year orders. (The company didn’t say whether Outback Steakhouse counts as ‘Aussie’ or not). That was followed by South African cuisine (294% YOY growth) and Cambodian, with a comparatively modest 4% YOY growth.

Suddenly craving a burrito? To celebrate the burrito taking the top spot on Grubhub’s Most Ordered list, Chipotle is giving Grubhub+ members $5 off their orders of $20 or more between now and the end of December. No code is needed, and each Grubhub+ customer can redeem one offer per day.
